Apple's next generation iPhone 14 Pro models will feature a hole-punch display for the first time, according to a new report from TheElec.
The 6.06-inch iPhone Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone Pro Max models will have hole-displays, sources said. The two other models, the regular 6.06-inch iPhone and 6.7-inch iPhone Max models will continue to have the notch as they did for the versions on the iPhone 13 series.
Apple is expected to use low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin-film transistors (TFT) for the OLED panel on the iPhone 14. While LTPO OLED panels were solely supplied by Samsung this year, LG aims to enter the supply chain for the next generation device.
The Elec also notes that Philoptics recently announced a display production equipment supply contract with Samsung. The site believes Philoptics is providing Samsung with equipment for the laser system that will be used in hole-display panels destined for the iPhone 14. Samsung currently uses HIAA (hole-in-active-area) laser etching equipment for hole-displays.
Notably, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also predicted a hole-punch display and 48MP camera for the iPhone 14.
