ChargerLab has posted a video teardown of Apple's new 140W USB-C GaN Power Adapter that ships with the new M1 Max 16-inch MacBook Pro. It's the first Apple charger that uses gallium nitride (GaN).
This is the brand new MacBook Pro 16 inch 140W fast charger, which is designed based on GaN technology. There is also a customized USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable. You have to use this cable to achieve 140W charging. Many people are curious about the internal design, architecture of the first PD 3.1 GaN fast charger, and what kind of brand new components are inside. Today, we will test and teardown this charger to answer those questions.
The charger can be purchased on its own for $99 plus $49 for the MagSafe 3 cable.
