Pictonym Puzzle Game

GeeThree Software has announced their first game, ImageQuest 1.0. A pictonym puzzle game for the iPhone OS, the player is asked to find the single word that links together a group of pictures. The challenge is to quickly identify the pictures, and keeping the question category in mind, type in the word that solves the puzzle. Players are scored for accuracy and speed, may advance through 30 levels, and can compete on-line.

Synonyms are words that mean essentially the same thing. Pictonyms, however, are not different pictures of the same object. Rather, pictonyms are pictures of a variety of objects which have some characteristic in common (i.e. color, shape). So playing Level 3, Spectra, the player types in 'Red' when faced with an assortment of objects which are all red. Having scored 250 points or more, the player can advance to the next, more difficult level.

Quickly, the categories become less well-defined, and the groupings of pictures more baffling. Only a flash of insight will solve the puzzle, and the correct answer is never revealed. Hints are available, but only with a substantial penalty in points. Every factor influences the score: correct answer, correct spelling, and time used to solve each 20 second puzzle.

And ImageQuest requires the use of both halves of the brain: the right side for recognition and categorization, and the left for word selection and spelling. Featuring 30 levels of play and over 8000 color photos, GeeThree is committed to continually expanding its library of puzzles, and has extended an invitation to would-be pictonymologists to contact the company.
