Apple could drop the notch in favor of a 'punch-hole' display design for some 2022 iPhone models, reports analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The displays would look similar to the ones used by the new Samsung Galaxy S21 smartphones.

Kuo believes that the hole-punch display design will be present in Apple's high-end 2022 iPhones at minimum. If production yields are good, Apple could adopt the design for all 2022 iPhones. Apple is also predicted to include autofocus on all 2022 iPhone front cameras.

Recently, there have been rumors that Apple is working on an under-display fingerprint scanner. If Apple's iPhone development progresses smoothly, Kuo says that the company will debut a new high-end iPhone in 2023 with an under-display fingerprint scanner, a periscope telephoto camera, and a true full-screen display design with no notch or holes.

Kuo also reports that Apple could launch a new low-end iPhone in the first half of 2023 to replace the iPhone 11. It would have a 6-inch LCD, Face ID, and a price of under $600.
