Apple is planning to add blood glucose monitoring capabilities to the Apple Watch Series 7, according to a new report from ETNews.

In an article focused on the next generation Galaxy Watch, the site says Samsung plans to monitor blood glucose levels non-invasively using Raman spectroscopy technology.

Raman spectroscopy is a spectroscopic technique that uses wavelength that is caused by vibrations of molecules of a material when laser light is scattered after it hits the particular material. Samsung Electronics and the research team from MIT have been able to raise the accuracy of noninvasive signal measurement to the highest level using Raman spectroscopy.

The article continues to say Apple is planning to introduce the same feature to its next generation Apple Watch.

It is also reported that Apple is planning to apply the same feature to the “Apple Watch 7” that is expected to be introduced this year. The company has already secured relevant patented technologies and is currently testing the feature’s reliability and stability before the commercialization.

A blood glucose monitoring feature has been rumored for Apple Watch for quite some time. Apple is said to have a team of PhDs working on it.

We don't expect Apple to unveil its next generation smartwatch until this fall. However, the current generation Apple Watch Series 6 already features several health monitoring features including ECG, irregular heart rate, and blood oxygen level checks. The Apple Watch Series 6 is on sale today for $60 off.
