Early results have Apple's M1 chip benchmarking higher than every Intel Mac in single-core performance while emulating x86.
The M1 Macs use Rosetta 2 when emulating x86, allowing them to run applications that haven't been compiled for the new processor.
Results in the Geekbench browser show that a MacBook Air with 8GB of RAM has benchmarked at 1313 (single-core) and 5888 (multi-core) under Rosetta 2. That's about 78-79% of its native performance score.
Current average scores for the new M1 Macs are as follows:
● MacBook Air (Late 2020): 1662 (single-core), 7171 (multi-core)
● MacBook Pro (Late 2020): 1699 (single-core), 7349 (multi-core)
● Mac Mini (Late 2020): 1741 (single-core), 7643 (multi-core)
Apple's new M1 Macs can be ordered now from the links below:
● 13-inch MacBook Air with M1 Chip - $999
● 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Chip - $1299
● Mac mini with M1 Chip - $699
