Apple's software update system is down following the release of macOS Big Sur 11.
It appears that users rushing to install Apple's new operating system have taken down Software Update.
At first, our download was moving, albeit extremely slowly. However, the download failed to complete, displaying a message that read, "An error occurred while installing the selected updates."
Now, any new attempts to update result in an immediate "Installation failed" error.
Apple confirmed that Software Update is experiencing issues on its System Status page.
Users may not be able to download macOS Software Updates on Mac computers. The issue is currently being investigated.
