Apple is planning another major upgrade to the camera on the next generation iPhone, according to TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

The analyst expects the 'iPhone 13' to come in the same four sizes as the 5G iPhone 12; however, the ultra wide camera on the two high-end models will purportedly get an f/1.8, 6P (six-element lens) with autofocus. Current iPhone 12 models have an f/2.4, 5P (five-element lens) with fixed focus.

The new ultra wide camera will likely stick with iPhones through 2022. Largan is expected to be a major supplier of voice coil motors (VCM) for the lens, obtaining about 70% of orders. That's up from 50% of orders for the iPhone 12 lens.

Kuo also expects shipments for the iPhone 13 to increase year over year due to a more robust 5G infrastructure, a return to the regular September timeframe for release, and significant camera improvements.
