Apple Backtracks on Forcing WordPress App to Sell Plans

Apple is backtracking on its requirement that the open source WordPress app sell WordPress.com plans via in-app purchase. However, it's still requiring the app to remove all references to the availability of paid plans.

Here's the official statement provided to The Verge:

We believe the issue with the WordPress app has been resolved. Since the developer removed the display of their service payment options from the app, it is now a free stand-alone app and does not have to offer in-app purchases. We have informed the developer and apologize for any confusion that we have caused.

The company's statement fails to acknowledge that WordPress had already removed these references. Additionally, the app never offered the ability to purchase paid plans in the first place.

Even if this conflict is now "resolved". The developer is still unable to inform app users of additional services and features that are available with a plan, far less link to them.
