Amazon wants to give Amazon Prime members a free Kindle e-book reader, according to a TechCrunch report.

A reliable source tells us Amazon wants to give a free Kindle to every Amazon Prime subscriber. Just as soon as they can work out how to do it without losing money.

Amazon Prime gives customers free two day shipping on everything they buy from the company for $79/year.


Those who subscribe to Amazon Prime tend to make multiple purchases per month and Amazon believes they would likely buy multiple books per month if they had a Kindle. If those users purchase enough books and Amazon can reduce production costs enough this could be a good way to get the reader into the hands of many more customers.
