Apple is working on a new AirPower prototype that uses an A11 chip for power management, according to leaker Jon Prosser.

While working from home, engineers on Apple’s ‘Sharing and Proximity’ team are receiving prototype units of something called “C68“. They are being asked work on software communication between devices for a “future product” that has an A11 inside to “dynamically manage heat”.

Prosser says that the Apple Watch uses a tweaked proprietary charging method that requires more energy to charge. Previous AirPower prototypes would overheat and combust when attempting to charge an Apple Watch. This problem may have led to the project's cancellation.

Now, an A11 chip is reportedly being used to manage power and prevent overheating.

Using the A11, this new prototype has the ability to route power to specific coil regions and can dynamically wait for temperatures to drop before applying more power - preventing it from overheating. The technology is kind of incredible.

There is a blurry image attached to Prosser's tweet which may show this new AirPower wireless charging pad prototype.
