Apple suppliers will begin shipping SiPs (System in Package) for the company's upcoming ultra-wideband 'AirTags' in the second and third quarter of this year, reports analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Shipments are expected to reach tens of millions of units in this year alone:

We expect Universal Asahi Electronics to begin shipping SiPs for UWB tags in 2–3Q20, with shipments reaching tens of millions in 2020. We believe that UWB tags can enhance the iOS search and AR application experience through the close-range measurement function. We expect Huaxu to be the main supplier of SiP for UWB tags, with a supply ratio of approximately 60%.

References to Apple's upcoming ultra-wideband tags likely called 'AirTags' has leaked numerous times over the past year. The tags are expected to operate much like Tile's trackers but with the ability to pinpoint location more accurately thanks to ultra-wideband support.

It's possible we could see AirTags unveiled at WWDC in June with a launch set for later this year.
