Foxconn has halted 'almost all' of its production in China due to the coronavirus which could have a 'big' impact on iPhone output, reports Reuters.
Foxconn could see a “big” production impact and shipments to customers including Apple face disruption if a Chinese factory halt due to the coronavirus outbreak extends into a second week, a person with direct knowledge of the matter said.
According to the site's source, China ordered Foxconn to shut down its factories in the country until at least February 10th. Any extension to this stoppage could disrupt shipments to clients including Apple.
So far, Foxconn has only seen a 'fairly small impact' from the outbreak as it has been utilizing factories in other countries such as Vietnam, India, and Mexico. It's expected to be able to make up for the delay if its Chinese factories come back up by February 10th.
There have been 17,486 confirmed cases and 362 confirmed deaths due to the coronavirus thus far and those numbers are climbing rapidly. The outbreak has been declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) by the World Health Organization (WHO).
