Apple CEO Tim Cook says Japanese ink supplier Seiko Advance is the 'reason' the company could release its new iPhone in Midnight Green, reports Nikkei.
In an interview, Cook told Nikkei that Seiko Advance is the "reason" Apple was able to release its top-of-the-line iPhone 11 Pro in a new color called Midnight Green.
Incorporated in 1950, Seiko Advance began working with Apple in 2011 when the company was initially invited to visit Apple and demonstrate its product. At first, Seiko "couldn't meet Apple's high standards"; however, after four years of continued development, the company finally began supplying black ink for iPhones.
This month, Cook stood in front of a metal tank full of green ink inside Seiko Advance's factory and told reporters, "This was only made by high-quality control and craftsmanship".
Yukinori Kabe, a sales manager, disclosed that the company developed a cleaner way of producing green ink that offers high color accuracy and durability. Midnight green isn't the only color Seiko Advance provides for the iPhone 11 Pro. It's also behind the Gold, Space Gray, and Silver models.
"We are the sole supplier of colors for the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max," said Kabe. For the lower-priced iPhone 11 range there are multiple suppliers.
Earlier this month, Cook tweeted his admiration for Seiko Advance.
Seiko Advance is a great example of our invaluable suppliers here in Japan. Thanks to their craftsmanship and attention to detail, the gorgeous colors of iPhone 11 Pro really come to life!
The company also appears happy to work with Apple.
"Cook showed us his attitude to deal with any company with high technology," said Kabe. "However small you are, Apple will be your customer if you have outstanding technology."
