Apple is planning to release an AR headset in 2022 and AR glasses in 2023, according to a new report from The Information.
Sources tell the site that the timeline was discussed at an internal presentation to employees in October at the company's Cupertino, California campus.
Apple Vice President Mike Rockwell, who heads the team responsible for Apple’s AR and virtual reality initiatives, led the meeting, which included new details about the design and features of the AR headset, these people said. The product timetables run counter to recent analyst and media reports that said an Apple AR device could arrive as early as next year.
Notably, the presentation was attended by enough employees to fill the 1,000 seat Steve Jobs Theatre, indicating Apple has a large team working on these projects.
Bloomberg recently reported that Apple was targeting next year for release of its AR headset and a leaked internal build of iOS 13 offered evidence that Apple is indeed working on an AR device; however, today's report suggests that the company's timeline is further out than anticipated.
