You May Soon Be Able to Install watchOS Updates Without an iPhone

Apple appears to be working on a way for Apple Watch users to install watchOS updates without needing an iPhone.

With the first beta of watchOS 6, Apple introduced a Software Update section under the Settings > General menu.

VentureBeat reporter Jeremy Horwitz was able to initiate the install of watchOS 6 beta 2 from the Apple Watch; however, accepting Apple's terms and conditions still required an iPhone.

Sure seems like the stage is being set for direct-to-Apple Watch software updates in watchOS 6, though it hasn’t been fully freed quite yet from the need to approve things on the iPhone.

It's likely that this step will be removed when watchOS 6 launches this fall. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
