Apple Confirms the End of Dashboard

Apple Confirms the End of Dashboard

Posted June 13, 2019 at 3:10pm by iClarified
Apple has removed Dashboard support from WebKit, confirming the demise of the widgets feature first introduced in OS X Tiger. The removal was spotted by Macotakara in a recent WebKit changelog.

Originally, when activating Dashboard, your desktop would dim and widgets would appear in the foreground. You could add new ones and rearrange the widgets to your liking.

With the launch of OS X 10.10 Yosemite, Apple began disabling Dashboard by default. You could still enable it up to macOS Mojave but Notification Center was the primary method of displaying widgets. In first beta of macOS Catalina, you can no longer enable the feature.

Since Dashboard widgets are rendered using the WebKit application framework, it's unlikely they will make a return in a future beta.
