Pegatron is planning to start assembling Apple MacBooks and iPads in Batam, Indonesia via PT Sat Nusapersada, a local manufacturer, reports Detiklnet via DigiTimes.

Abidin Hasibuan, CEO of PT Sat Nusapersada, did not deny that the company would start assembling products in June. The CEO did not specify the client or clients it would be working for, but said the products would be shipped to the US, according to the report.

The report says that Pegatron has invested $300 million to refurbish two plants in Indonesia. Originally the company planned to establish plants in Vietnam but decided on Batam due to its larger labor force.

Shifting production outside China could help Apple avoid getting hit with tariffs in the escalating trade war between the U.S. and China. Recent reports claim Foxconn is starting trial production runs of the iPhone X range of devices in India.
