Apple is preparing to launch a cord-free version of the Beats PowerBeats wireless sports earphones in April, reports CNET.
The new true wireless PowerBeats earphones are expected to use Apple's new H1 chip and have the same always-on Siri voice-assistant as the new AirPods, as well as the other connectivity improvements that the H1 is supposed to deliver. The battery life may also be better than the AirPods.
The new PowerBeats may be a good alternative for customers who prefer an earbud that sits more securely in their ear. The earbuds could also feature better base and water resistance.
Notably, PowerBeats3 are currently on sale for $99 on Amazon.com with limited availability, down from a list of $199.95. It's unclear what price the new model would retail at.
