iOS 12.2 Beta 6 Includes Support for AirPower Wireless Charging Mat Hinting at Impending Release

Support for the long awaited AirPower wireless charging mat has been found in iOS 12.2 beta 6, reports Guilherme Rambo for 9to5Mac. Rambo found that the latest beta includes significant changes to the component responsible for wireless charging, including code for identifying when two devices are being charged on the same mat.
AirPower can charge up to three devices at once, using the device with the largest screen to display the charging status for all devices on the mat. It shows 3D animations of the devices on screen when they start charging, which is in part what this system component is for.
In January, reports claimed that Apple had finally put AirPower into production after unveiling it in 2017. Apple released new iPads yesterday and new iMacs today. A next generation iPod touch is expected tomorrow and we're hoping to see new AirPods and AirPower arrive later in the week or at the company's press event on March 25th.
