These Are the First Original Shows Likely to Debut on Apple's Upcoming Video Service

The New York Times has published a list of the first original shows likely to debut with the launch of Apple's upcoming video service.

On March 25th, Apple will hold an event at the Steve Jobs theater in Cupertino, California at which the company is expected to launch a subscription video service. That service will include original movies and TV shows that have been produced by Apple.

So far, five series have completed filming and around six more are close to wrapping production, according to sources. The number of original shows is expected to increase in 2020.

Untitled Series Starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston
Apple purportedly committed itself to two seasons of this show without seeing a script. It takes place behind-the-scenes of a morning TV show. The cast includes Ms. Witherspoon and Ms. Aniston, who are also producers, Steve Carell, Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass. Kerry Ehrin, co-creator of A&E’s “Bates Motel”, is the showrunner. Shooting for season one is nearly done.

“Amazing Stories,” a Steven Spielberg Reboot
Apple reached a deal with Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television and Comcast's NBCUniversal television production unit to make new episodes of 'Amazing Stories', a science fiction and horror anthology series that ran in the 1980s. Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are producing.

“Are You Sleeping?” a Mystery Starring Octavia Spencer
A drama a created and written by Nichelle Tramble Spellman and produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and Chernin Ent/Endeavor Content. Based on the novel by Kathleen Barber, Are You Sleeping will offer a glimpse into the obsession with true crime podcasts and "challenges its viewers to consider the consequences when the pursuit of justice is placed on a public stage." Shooting is believed to have finished late last year.

“For All Mankind,” a Ronald D. Moore Sci-Fi Series
A space drama from the producer of “Outlander” and “Battlestar Galactica”, For All Mankind is a alternate-history look at what would have happened if the global space race had continued.

“See,” With the “Aquaman” Star Jason Momoa
A fantasy epic starring the “Aquaman” star (please note, the series is not called “Sea”) that poses the question, What would happen to humanity if everyone lost their sight? Also with Alfre Woodard, who has been in everything from “Scrooged” to “Luke Cage.” Now shooting.

A New Shyamalan Thriller
This thriller from the maker of “The Sixth Sense” and “Glass” stars Rupert Grint, Lauren Ambrose and Nell Tiger Free. Filming has finished but the story line is still a secret.

“Little America,” From the Writers of “The Big Sick”
Now shooting, this series is focused on stories of immigrants coming to America. It's produced by Lee Eisenberg (“The Office”) and the husband-and-wife screenwriting duo behind “The Big Sick,” Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon.

A Comedy From the “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” Duo
This comedy from Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day is reportedly done

“Central Park,” a Cartoon Musical
Central Park is an animated series with songs from "Bob's Burgers" creator Loren Bouchard, Josh Gad, and producer Nora Smith. It should be finished in the next few months.

“Home,” From the Documentary Filmmaker Matt Tyrnauer
This series will offer viewers a look inside the world's most extraordinary homes and delve into the minds of the people who built them. Each episode is one hour long. It will likely be finished in a few months.

“Dickinson,” an Emily Dickinson Comedy
A half hour show about 19th century poet Emily Dickinson. The show stars Hailee Steinfeld (Pitch Perfect 3) and Jane Krakowski as her mother. It's described as a 'comedic look into Dickinson's world'. It will purportedly explore the constraints of society, gender, and family from the perspective of a budding writer who doesn't fit in to her own time. Shooting is done.
