Compal has landed orders to assemble Apple's new iPad mini, according to a DigiTimes report. Apple is expected to unveil a cheaper iPad mini 'as early as this spring' alongside a new 10-inch entry-level iPad.
Compal is now also among major contract producers of Apple's iPads, and is expected to ramp up its iPad shipments after Apple releases iPad Mini models later in 2019, the sources added.
The company inaugurated a new plant in Chongqing, China last year and is building a second fab there which should open in the second half of 2019.
The two new plants are reportedly dedicated to the production of non-PC devices, especially Apple Watch Series 4, as Compal has landed contract production orders for the new wearable devices from the US tech giant, according to industry sources.
Evidence of new iPads has been found in the iOS 12.2 beta so we could potentially see them in the first half of 2019. You can follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
