Apple's next generation iPhone XR could feature a 4x4 MIMO antenna design when it launches later this year, according to a research note from Barclays relayed by MacRumors.
While the current iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max feature a 4x4 MIMO antenna design, the iPhone XR has a 2x2 MIMO antenna. 4x4 MIMO has four streams of data for transmit and receive pathways; whereas, 2x2 MIMO only has two.
The added streams will result in improved cellular performance for the iPhone XR. Additionally, it's rumored that Apple could add support for Wi-Fi 6 to its new devices.
Apple isn't expected to unveil its new iPhones until this fall. Until then, please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
