LG Display has landed orders to supply Apple with about 400,000 OLED displays for iPhone this year, reports ETNews.

According to a number of industry observers familiar with the LG display, the number of panels supplied to Apple this year is estimated to be about 400,000 units. If OLED panel prices are estimated at W100,000 per unit, LG Display is expected to generate about W40bn in sales from Apple.

The panels will be produced at LG's E-6 plant located in Paju. Initial operation is already in progress and the company will gradually ramp up production in November, supplying panels to Apple in mid-December.

Although the quantity is small, LG entering Apple's supply chain is significant. Samsung was previously the only supplier capable of producing displays for Apple's flagship smartphones. If LG is able to ramp production it would give Apple a better bargaining position when negotiating panel prices in the future.
