Qualcomm Confirms Apple Will Not Use Its Modems for New 2018 iPhones

Qualcomm has confirmed that Apple will not use its modems for the next generation iPhones launching this fall.

During its earnings call today, CFO George Davis said, "We believe Apple intends to solely use our competitors' modems rather than our modems in its next iPhone release. We will continue to provide modems for Apple legacy devices."

Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon also added that the company doesn't expect to be part of Apple's next product launch.

The news doesn't come as a surprise given Apple's legal battle with Qualcomm. We've been hearing reports since early this year that Intel may be the sole supplier of LTE modems for the 2018 iPhones.

Notably, a report from earlier this month claimed that Apple would drop Intel as a modem supplier in 2020, perhaps in favor of MediaTek.
