TSMC may score report profits for 2018 as it gradually ramps up volume production of its 7nm process in 2H18 to fabricate A12 processors for Apple and chips for Qualcomm, reports DigiTimes.

The sources said that TSMC will see its revenue ratio for advanced 7nm process hit a high of 20% in 2018, and may therefore post better-than-projected revenues and profits for the second half of the year and register an annual revenue growth of over 10%.

DigiTimes expects these record profits despite TSMC having lowered its growth forecast to 10% from 10-15% for the second quarter. TSMC cited weaker than expected smartphone demand and uncertainty in the cryptocurrency mining market, as reasons for the adjustment.

Qualcomm is said to have grabbed a large portion of chip orders from non-Apple smartphone vendors and will have TSMC fabricate them in the second half of the year. Combined with Apple's A12 processors orders, TSMC's revenue ratio for the smartphone segment is expected to hit a high of 40% in 2018. Another 40% of TSMC's revenue will reportedly come from the high-performance computing chip segment.
