Samsung has announced plans to debut a Bixby-powered Smart Speaker later this year, reports the WSJ. The device would rival Apple's new HomePod and the Amazon Echo.
Samsung’s technology roadmap extends to 2025. On it is a voice-activated speaker, like Amazon.com Inc.’s Echo or Alphabet Inc.’s Google Home, powered by Samsung’s digital assistant Bixby. Mr. Koh said the speaker would make its debut in the second half of this year.
Samsung mobile chief D.J. Koh said that pricing has not yet been determined but it could eventually be set a different tiers.
“When I introduce the first model, I don’t want to give the impression that Samsung delivered another affordable mass model,” Mr. Koh said. “I want to focus on more premium.”
Samsung just unveiled its new S9 and S9+ smartphones to rival the iPhone X. You can learn more about those devices here.
