Fusion Garage has announced that they own all the IP to the CrunchPad and will being selling it as the JooJoo tablet.
CEO Chandra Rathakrishnan held a press conference today in which he claimed Fusion Garage was developing a browser based OS before hearing about Michael Arrington's post on the idea. Arrington reportedly promised to market the idea, get investors and eventually acquire Fusion Garage.
Rathakrishnan says "Michael was unable to deliver at the project's date end, in February 2009". He also stressed that "there was never any agreement of any kind between the two companies. This was nothing more than a potential acquisition that didn't occur. Michael sat back while we took all the risk. The suggestion that Michael or TechCrunch owns anything is simply ludicrous."
"TechCrunch didn't contribute a single line of code... As Michael wrote in his own April 2009 blog post, 'All credit should go to Fusion Garage.'"
At this time Fusion Garage has not received any lawsuits from TechCrunch or Arrington. They have decided to go ahead and sell the tablet renamed, JooJoo. It features a 12.1-inch capacitive touchscreen, no physical buttons beyond the on/off switch, a UNIX web-based OS, no pre-loaded apps, windows, or menus, 5 hours of battery life, Wi=Fi, but no SIM card. The device will cost $499 and is available for pre-order from December 11th.
