Apple May Replace 5.8-inch iPhone X With LCD Model [Report]

Apple is leaning towards releasing two LCD iPhones and one OLED iPhone this fall, replacing the 5.8-inch OLED iPhone X with an LCD model, according to DigiTimes.

Senior analyst Luke Lin says that Apple was four iPhone projects in testing: a 5.7- to 5.8-inch LCD device; a 6.0- to 6.1-inch LCD device; a 6.0- to 6.1-inch OLED device; and a 6.4- to 6.5-inch OLED device.

Apple originally intended to push the two OLED iPhones and the 6.0- to 6.1-inch LCD iPhone, but has recently started leaning toward the combination of the two LCD models plus the 6.4- to 6.5-inch OLED iPhone, abandoning the 6.0- to 6.1-inch OLED model.

All four devices are said to feature wireless charging and 3D sensing functionalities.

Notably, this report contradicts what we've been hearing from Ming-Chi Kuo, a KGI Securities analyst. Kuo believes that Apple will launch a 5.8-inch OLED iPhone, a 6.1-inch LCD iPhone, and a 6.5-inch OLED iPhone this fall.

It's possible that Apple could be leaning towards two LCD models due to lower than expected demand for the high priced iPhone X. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
