Apple Looks to Combine Face Recognition and Camera Modules, Could Result in Smaller Notch

Apple is looking into combining its face recognition module with the front facing camera module, according to an ETNews report. This would allow for a smaller notch in the smartphone's display.

According to industries, it is heard that Apple is planning to strengthen face sensing function starting from 2019 models. That is why it is planning to increase number of parts that will be used for iPhones and is looking into combination of a face recognition module with a camera module.

As we've previously reported, Apple is planning to bring Face ID to more products in 2018 and 2019. LG Innotek, the company that makes face recogition modules for the iPhone X, has announced an $821 million investment into its production facilities.

"This investment is for camera modules of mobile devices and businesses for new modules," says the company.

“We believe that LG Innotek is planning to make investments in order to construct new production lines for face recognition modules that will be supplied to Apple.” said a representative for a Smartphone parts manufacturer. “It is considering products that will be released in 2019 and not 2018.”
