Demand for the iPhone X in the U.S. is strong with early adoption matching iPhone 8 Plus levels and beating iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 Plus levels, according to IHS Markit via DigiTimes.

After just three weeks of availability, the iPhone X already accounts for 2% of the active installed base in eight countries. The leading countries are those with high GDP including Denmark, Switzerland, Singapore, and Japan.

Countries where "Plus" model iPhones have been successful in the past have a strong correlation with initial levels of iPhone X adoption, the research firm noted. Consumers in those markets have a greater interest in larger displays and high-quality dual cameras, as well as the willingness to pay the higher price a Plus model or iPhone X costs over regular-size iPhones.

Despite alleged production constraints, initial uptake has been similar to previous flagship models indicating strong demand and better than rumored supply.

In the US, iPhone X adoption after three weeks matched the adoption of iPhone 8 Plus and beat early adoption levels for both the iPhone 8 and 7 Plus. Only the iPhone 7 model had greater initial success. In Japan, initial iPhone X adoption was as good as or better than any recent iPhone launch, and matched the level of the iPhone 7.

Apple will likely have its best year ever for iPhone in 2017. It's expected to ship a record 88.8 million in 4Q17 alone. If Apple can ship 31 million iPhone X units it will exceed an average selling price of $700 USD for the first time. IHS Markit forecasts year-over-year increases in shipment volumes for the next four quarters.
