Apple has confirmed an issue with the iPhone 8 that causes the earpiece to randomly crackle during calls, reports The Verge.

Numerous customers have reported the intermittent static noise since the iPhone 8 release last week. The Verge says one of its editors is also experiencing the problem.

Apple has verified the problem and is working on a fix. Here's the official statement:

“We are aware of the issue which is affecting customers in a small number of cases,” an Apple spokesperson said. “Our team is at work on a fix, which will be included in an upcoming software release.”

The crackle sound has been reported on various iPhone 8 models and carriers. Listen to the video below with headphones to hear what it sounds like.
