TrueDepth Camera is Holding Back iPhone X Production [Report]

Posted September 25, 2017 at 3:47pm by iClarified
The primary bottleneck holding back production of the iPhone X is its new TrueDepth camera, according to a recent report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

TrueDepth camera may be main production bottleneck of iPhone X ramp. The 3D sensing (TrueDepth camera) on iPhone X is composed of a structured-light system, time-of-flight system and a front-facing camera, which represents a far more complex structure than those of rivals. It will therefore be harder to achieve mass production. While we project iPhone X will see output ramp up meaningfully in mid/ late October, tight supply may only start to ease in 1H18F due to strong demand.

Earlier today, DigiTimes reported that Apple was asking some suppliers to slow down delivery of components as product ion is not moving as quickly as expected.

Kuo expects component shipments to ramp in mid to late-October. With pre-orders for the iPhone X set to go live on October 27th, the device will likely be in extreme short supply. Pre-orders are expected to exceed 40-50 million units.

Still can't stand iPhone X's notch at the top. So ugly and unrefined. Camera still pops out at the back another design failure.

Maybe Apple should've delayed the iPhone preorders until December? Naturally they don't want to miss the holidays sales, but short supplies may impact them anyway.
