The virtual Home button on the iPhone 8 can be resized, according to details found in the HomePod's firmware by developer Steve Troughton-Smith.

Troughton-Smith says these four things are supported by API evidence.
Having bars bleed under it, and no color API, suggests w/e indicator there is for the home button will have to contrast well with all bgs
He also notes that there is no evidence that app UI moves to the Home button area, contradicting speculation that Apple could move navigation controls to the bottom for easier one handed use.
There is a system periphery area that expands/minimizes and shows/hides the home button indicator as needed. Mock up accordingly
