References to a 4K HDR Apple TV have reportedly been found in firmware for the upcoming HomePod.
A software update for the smart speaker, believed to be for internal use, was mistakenly seeded to the public last month. It's provided a slew of interesting tidbits including confirmation of the iPhone 8's design.
Developer Guilherme Rambo spotted multiple 4K HDR references in the firmware including a kCoreThemeDynamicDisplayMode4kHDR reference.
"4K HDR Apple TV? CONFIRMED!", tweets Rambo.
Notably, it appears as the though the new device will support both Dolby Vision and HDR 10.
The discovery corroborates another earlier 'leak' from Apple which saw iTunes Movies being marked as 4K HDR in the purchase history of some users. While we don't know when Apple plans to unveil the new device, a release before the holiday shopping season would make sense.
