Apple is celebrating World Emoji Day with a set of emoji filled movie banners in the iTunes Store.
The fourth annual World Emoji Day takes place today July 17th because it's the date shown on Apple's calendar emoji.
Emoji are pictographs (pictorial symbols) that are typically presented in a colorful cartoon form and used inline in text. They represent things such as faces, weather, vehicles and buildings, food and drink, animals and plants, or icons that represent emotions, feelings, or activities. There are a total of 2666 in the Unicode Emoji Standard with more been added regularly.
This year the most used emoji on Twitter was the face with tears of joy with over 6.6 billion uses.
