Apple has reportedly placed orders for 70 million bendable OLED display panels from Samsung, reports Nikkei Asian Review. The large order suggests that Apple expects its 10th anniversary smartphone to be a big seller.

A supply chain source confirmed the size of the order which was in line with an estimate from IHS Markit director David Hsieh.

"Apple has ordered 70 million units of OLED panels from Samsung this year, while Samsung is preparing to churn out as many as 95 million for Apple in 2017, in case demand exceeds expectations," Hsieh said. "It is also possible that some of these 70 million handsets will not be shipped to customers this year and be carried over to next year depending on demand."

The slightly curved OLED screen on the iPhone 8 is estimated to measure about 5.2-inches. Apple is also expected to release two other handsets with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch LED displays. All models are said to come with wireless charging functions; although, overheating problems are still being worked out. They will also be waterproof.

A source also told the site that at least one model will feature a 3D sensor that enables facial recognition. The high-end model will also drop the home button.

Apple is expected to unveil its new smartphones later this year. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
