Apple will adopt a chassis made of reinforced glass with a stainless steel metal frame for its rumored 5.8-inch iPhone model, according to a new DigiTimes report. The updated 4.7-inch model will continue using an aluminum-alloy chassis, say sources.

The reinforced glass chassis' stainless steel metal frame will be supplied by Foxconn Technology and US-based Jabil Circuit, while the aluminum-alloy chassis will be supplied by Catcher Technology.

DigiTimes says Casetek, a metal chassis subsidiary of Pegatron, has been aggressively sending samples to Apple and establishing new production bases; however, it has yet to obtain significant orders.

The 10th anniversary iPhone will likely be a major update. It will purportedly have a front glass cover and chassis, joined by a metal bezel and an edge-to-edge display that has no bezels on the top and bottom. Additionally, the front camera, Touch ID, speaker, and other sensors will apparently be embedded into the display. Another report claims that the device would be a clear piece of glass with a next-generation OLED screen. More recently, Apple is said to be equipping the phone with wireless charging, an iris scanner, and a 3D camera.
