Apple Campus 2 is Being Built With Astonishing Attention to Detail

Apple Campus 2 is being built with astonishing to detail, according to a Reuters report based on information from nearly two dozen current and former workers on the project.

Initially projected to be finished by 2015, the new Apple headquarters has seen its completion date slowly get pushed further back. One of the reasons is Apple's crazy attention to detail.

Sources say Apple is treating the campus project like the design of one of its products with numerous guidelines and requirements that construction workers aren't accustomed to. For example, no vents or pipes could be reflected in the glass. There are 30 pages of guidelines for special wood used throughout the building. Often tolerances demanded were far less than 1/8 of an inch, even on hidden surfaces, which sometimes conflicted with construction realities.

Early in construction, Apple managers told the construction team that the ceiling - composed of large panels of polished concrete - should be immaculate inside and out, just as the inside of the iPhone’s audio jack is a finished product, a former construction manager recalled.

One frustrating feature for construction workers was the doorways. Apple wanted them perfectly flat with no threshold. The logic was that if engineers had to adjust their gait while entering the building, they risked distraction from their work. “We spent months trying not to do that because that’s time, money and stuff that’s never been done before,” a former construction manager said.

Apple is expected to complete their new campus this spring. Check out the construction progress in the video below!
