Apple is planning to release a 5-inch and 5.8-inch iPhone with bezel-less design and curved edges next year, according to Barclays Research analysts Blayne Curtis, Christopher Hemmelgarn, Thomas O'Malley, and Jerry Zhang.

Following a trip to Asia this week, the analysts site sources which revealed the new design would allow for larger displays within the same footprint as the current 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models.

Larger and Bezel-less - iPhone 8 design didn't sound 100% locked down but we believe the move is to a bezel-less design with screen sizes getting larger and curved edges in the original envelope. The iPhone 8 moves to 5" (from 4.7") and the Plus moves to 5.8" (from 5.5").

The analysts also claim that only the 5.8-inch model would get an OLED display supplied by Samsung, LG, and Sharp (by 2018).

Barclays does not believe that Apple will get rid of the Home button yet. Rather the analysts say the screen will "extend vertically as well as horizontally".

Last month, Nikkei reported that Apple would release three 'iPhone 8' models all with glass backs in 2017. We've been hearing reports for some time that the 10th anniversary iPhone will be a major update. It will purportedly have a front glass cover and chassis, joined by a metal bezel and an edge-to-edge display that has no bezels on the top and bottom. Additionally, the front camera, Touch ID, speaker, and other sensors will apparently be embedded into the display. Another report claims that the device may be a clear piece of glass with a next-generation OLED screen.
