Samsung is planning to launch a new AI personal assistant, possibly called Bixby, alongside its upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphone, reports Reuters.

Last month, the company announced it had acquired Viv, the next generation assistant created by the founders of Siri. Samsung plans to integrate the technology into the Galaxy S8 and its various home appliances and wearables.

There's a lot riding on Samsung's next smartphone as the company was forced to recall the Galaxy Note 7 due an exploding battery costing it billions.

Samsung did not comment on what types of services would be offered through the AI assistant that will be launched on the Galaxy S8, which is expected to go on sale early next year. It said the AI assistant would allow customers to use third-party service seamlessly.

"Developers can attach and upload services to our agent," said Samsung Executive Vice President Rhee Injong during a briefing, referring to its AI assistant. "Even if Samsung doesn't do anything on its own, the more services that get attached the smarter this agent will get, learn more new services and provide them to end-users with ease."

Apple, Google, Microsoft, and soon Samsung are all fighting to offer customers the best personal assistant. Will Viv propel Samsung to the top? Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
