Next Year's iPhone to Have Full-Screen Face With Virtual Button Built Directly Into Screen [NYT]

Even as Apple launches its brand new iPhone 7, reports are building excitement for an even larger update to the smartphone that is allegedly being planned for 2017.

The New York Times says that the next generation iPhone will feature a full-screen face with a virtual button built directly into the display.

But taking the leap to the 7 may be a wise bet, even for late technology adopters. Apple is likely to continue making iPhones without headphone jacks, and next year’s iPhone will have a full-screen face with the virtual button built directly into the screen, according to two people at the company who spoke on condition of anonymity because the product details are private. Apple declined to comment on next year’s iPhones.

This corroborates other reports we've been hearing about Apple's 10th anniversary iPhone.

Apple is reportedly working on a massive redesign of the iPhone for next year. It's said the company will introduce three new iPhone models with one of them featuring a curved OLED display. It's widely rumored that the smartphone will be moving to an all-glass design. It will purportedly have a front glass cover and chassis, joined by a metal bezel and an edge-to-edge display that has no bezels on the top and bottom. Additionally, the front camera, Touch ID, speaker, and other sensors will apparently be embedded into the display.

I'm still using iPhone 5 from 2012. I was going to upgrade to iPhone 7 but there's nothing impressive about it. Sounds like the 10th anniversary iPhone is going to be better than this crap shoot iPhone 7. I'm waiting another year.

It's boring to wait more than 4 years of these rumours ( full screen ) even if it's right , but we as customers we will like the idea with huge demand of new iPhone if this feature unveiled suddenly not to wait 4 years . Another point is there is no revolutionary feature will be unveiled soon . like full screen , headphone jack , Touch ID , wireless charging, new colours , these not features that we had celebrated, I think if we ( customers ) every year celebrate these new features ( designs ) the companies will be happy . We must be angry and even boycott of buying new models because nothing revolutionary. As example last update for me is iPhone 6 Plus , I will never upgrade for those small designs , may be now with these new technologies of nanotechnology and rumours that we heard of new batteries ( if it will last for days ) then we call it revolutionary update and then we will think to change our devices . This my thoughts.

You do realize that companies cannot do revolutionary things every year? It is more realistically to assume that new things will be every 10 years. But all these companies are so tights with IP and licenses which makes very hard to deal with. My biggest complain is JB. User (owner) should be able to customize product that is purchased. These days you have to be top notch programmer to figure things out. I missed the time when hobbiest were able to create great stuff and apps but technology advanced so much and specialized so much that you have to live a century to figure things. So, hackers in old term are disappearing and people are not that excited about electronic/electrical stuff as they used to be just because of limitations on customization.
