Apple Allegedly Kills Off Single Lens iPhone 7 Just Months Before Launch

Apple has allegedly killed off plans to release three different iPhone 7 models just months before launch.

We've seen rumors and mockups circulating for sometime that suggest Apple might be launching a 4.7-inch iPhone with a single lens camera, a 5.5-inch iPhone Plus with a single lens camera, and a 5.5-inch iPhone Pro with a dual lens camera. Apparently, that was the plan but Nikkei is reporting that intense competition has forced Apple to drop the single lens 5.5-inch model and only release a dual lens model.

It is the first time that Apple has come under such pressure since it launched iPhones in 2007. The competition is so fierce that Apple killed off a premium iPhone 7 model in the second quarter, less than six months before its official launch in September, according to a source. Initially, Apple had planned two versions of iPhone 7 Plus, one with a single lens and one with a dual lens. The single lens edition has since been ditched, the source said.

"This never happened before. Before this year, Apple never made changes to iPhone's product line mere months before the launch. It has been a volatile year for Apple," a source said.

If true, this may bode well for customers as the 5.5-inch iPhone Pro would likely have been sold at a premium. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 7 on September 7th. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.

I don't know why a larger phone has to equal premium and a smaller phone gets neutered comparatively (no mention that the 4.7 model would get the dual lens). Is a Ford F150 more desirable as a piece of fine machinery than a Ferrari? And Apple continues to be clueless about the absurd size of their bezels. Nearly an inch top and bottom for what? Symmetry? Isn't the whole point of force touch so that you can access functionality within the screen area? Lose the bezels and give us a freaking 5" iPhone in the same space as the current 4.7".

What is so clueless about having more bezel than less!? For one thing, that affects the design from inside to the outside of the phone, but it would make and encourage everyone to think it would continue to look like an android phone.

The bigger products get more because of how much more room to affect how much more can be stored overall is one thing, but with different sizes, it's another to add what a company can. Read Numb butts' comment below on what he or she just covered about the iPad Pro on different sizes. He states what both devices get different parts that do make them acceptable enough for people to decide what they want when you dead it, so if you think about what's going to happen with the 4.7" iPhone 7, we don't know what else will be included that will get something to give it a compromise against the 5.5" yet.

What the hell ? Why would you want to deprive the 4.7 inch users of the Dual lens camera? This is Bull*** logic if true. I dont want a 5.5 inch iphone that does not even fit in my pocket without creating a huge bulk and bulge. I am perfectly happy with 4.7 inch. So give me the damn best features in both models.

It's because the bigger the product under the same name but different size, the more features it has, but for one thing I'd like to mention, if there were to be a single lens 5.5 then it would give people a compromise between something that costs more with more features compared to less cost and less features, so they would risk buying something without extra features, but moreover it would make sense because look at iPad Pro between the 2 sizes, small one with less ram but with a tru tone screen compared to larger one with more ram without tru tone. With that in kind, who knows what Apple will do for the 4.7 inch iPhone 7? If anything that's true, this logic makes sense. Apple will add different features for different models to make a great compromise.

What's the bonus of a dual lens camera? Is it for bigger photos and for macro photos? Or is it for something else like 3D?

From my knowledge, the dual lens camera system would allow for some sort of optical zoom feature where one lens is a zoom lens and one is a wide angle, the software would then switch between them when zooming in. This would allow you to avoid those irritating fuzzy pixels when at full zoom. Another bonus could be that when taking a wide angle photograph the zoom lens could fire simultaneously to allow you to zoom in on a wide angle photograph much further after it's taken. It could also be use for distance measurement since each camera has a slightly different vantage point. I'm sure Apple will find other uses for the camera system as well, but that's what I think they'll do.

Guess that finally confirms the recent models were shown to be fake because maybe Apple's plans all along were to release 2 models instead of 3, but hey, this is good.
