Nintendo's next two smartphone games will be free to play, according to development partner DeNA.
Last month, Nintendo announced that its next two mobile games will be based on Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing and will launch this fall. The Fire Emblem based game will be more accessible than the version for Nintendo's dedicated gaming systems. The company says it "aims to offer the great value of a role-playing strategy game". The Animal Crossing game will be connected with the world of Animal Crossing for dedicated gaming systems. Nintendo says by playing both Animal Crossing games "users will find increased enjoyment".
“Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing are both free-to-start apps,” DeNA Chief Executive Isao Moriyasu told The Wall Street Journal. A Nintendo spokeswoman confirmed Mr. Moriyasu’s comment.
The apps will likely offer in-app purchases as a means of generating revenue. Moriyasu said the two upcoming titles are more 'pure-game apps' than Nintendo's Miitomo title which more of a social networking app that a game.
