Samsung Galaxy S7 Chip Bests iPhone 6s Chip in Benchmarks [Charts]

Samsung Galaxy S7 Chip Bests iPhone 6s Chip in Benchmarks [Charts]

Posted March 7, 2016 at 2:30pm by iClarified
New benchmarks comparing the top 10 smartphone chips have been posted online by AnTuTu. The top chip was the Snapdragon 820 processor found in the Samsung Galaxy S7 with a score of 136,383. The Apple A9 processor found in the iPhone 6s followed closely behind with a score of 132657.

Notably, the Snapdragon 820 distanced itself from Apple's chip in GPU benchmarks beating the A9 by 15,994 points. The strong GPU performance is needed to power the Galaxy S7's higher resolution display.

Currently, the GPU with the highest performance is Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 (Adreno530), and its GPU score has already reached a score of 55,000. Samsung Exynos 8890 (Mali-T880 MP12) nearly equals Apple A9 (PowerVR GT7600). As for HiSilicon Kirin 950 (Mali-T880 MP4) that is well known to all, its GPU performance is not good enough, and its GPU results are similar to Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 (Adreno418) and Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 (Adreno510).

While Samsung has been able to best Apple's chip in benchmark scores that doesn't necessarily translate to a real life speed advantage over the iPhone. Due to software optimizations and its lower resolution display, the iPhone 6s appears to be slightly faster in early comparisons.

Too many iSheep and Samsung Haters here..... Take it for what it is 'A chip with a faster benchmark!'. It's about driving technology forward so we ALL benefit, not a competition about OS or brands. Remember half the tech in your iPhone is produced by Samsung!!

Too bad their software doesn't run as efficiently if actually is slower in real world.

Hardware is good, but software is a KING, motha fucka! both are great phones, but when will samsung learn that android is nothing but just a failure. someone who really serious about their software, should make their own hardware - allan kay -

This is like saying a particular model Lexus has more horsepower than a Mercedes but it doesn't matter because it will still never be the complete package that a Mercedes is.

Lexus is way better than Mercedes. Look at the J.D. Power! Number one most reliable vehicle!

Apple could leave the A9 chip in the forthcoming iPhone and it would still be better off than Samsungs S7. However we all know from experience that Apple doesn't do 'standing still' so next chip will be a lesson for the Korean manufacturer.

Lol I personally feel that apple stood still with the iPhone 6S for the first time and definitely let Samsung beat them this time, I have the 6S and pre ordered the S7 edge because it's actually a better device, hopefully the iPhone 7 will be way better this time!!

Doesn't matter because I'm still not using an android based os. It still seems slow and still sucks to navigate through.

While I'm no fan of Samsung, that's more googles fault than samsungs. Android os just sucks when it comes to how it uses system resources.

But Samsung chose Android! They could have done something on their own Tizen OS.

Means nothing. iPhone 7 will wipe the floor with the 820 chip.
