New benchmarks comparing the top 10 smartphone chips have been posted online by AnTuTu. The top chip was the Snapdragon 820 processor found in the Samsung Galaxy S7 with a score of 136,383. The Apple A9 processor found in the iPhone 6s followed closely behind with a score of 132657.
Notably, the Snapdragon 820 distanced itself from Apple's chip in GPU benchmarks beating the A9 by 15,994 points. The strong GPU performance is needed to power the Galaxy S7's higher resolution display.
Currently, the GPU with the highest performance is Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 (Adreno530), and its GPU score has already reached a score of 55,000. Samsung Exynos 8890 (Mali-T880 MP12) nearly equals Apple A9 (PowerVR GT7600). As for HiSilicon Kirin 950 (Mali-T880 MP4) that is well known to all, its GPU performance is not good enough, and its GPU results are similar to Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 (Adreno418) and Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 (Adreno510).
While Samsung has been able to best Apple's chip in benchmark scores that doesn't necessarily translate to a real life speed advantage over the iPhone. Due to software optimizations and its lower resolution display, the iPhone 6s appears to be slightly faster in early comparisons.
