Apple has placed a hiring freeze on the team responsible for developing its electric car, reports AppleInsider. The freeze was instituted after executives became unhappy with the direction and progress on the project.

The change was precipitated by a post-holiday progress review conducted by Apple design chief Jony Ive, according to a previously reliable source with knowledge of the team's activities. Ive is said to have "expressed his displeasure" with the group's headway.

Apple is said to have over 1,000 employees working on 'Project Titan'. Steve Zadesky was tasked with building the team up over the past year; however, the WSJ recently reported that the long time Apple engineer would be leaving the company. It's unclear if Zadesky's departure is related to performance issues or whether it's for personal reasons as initially reported.

AppleInsider claims that Apple's car initiative has seen multiple setbacks in recent months. The company is said to have considered partnering with BMW for manufacturing but those talks haven't led to an agreement.
