Apple is planning to hold an event in March at which the company will unveil the second generation Apple Watch and possibly a 4-inch iPhone, according to 9to5Mac sources. The new Apple Watch would ship by April, about a year after the original model shipped.

Apple began to develop technologies destined for future Apple Watch models long before the first generation even shipped. As we previously reported, Apple has been working on new camera, wireless, sleep tracking, and health sensor technologies for the wearable device, but it is currently unclear which of these additions are will appear on the model planned to be introduced in March. Apple last updated the device in September with new colors, bands, and software features.

We've heard numerous rumors about a 4-inch iPhone over the past few months. Most recently it's been predicted that the 4-inch iPhone will resemble an upgraded iPhone 5s and feature an A9 chip made by both TSMC and Samsung, 2.5D cover glass, NFC, a metal casing with at least 2 to 3 color options, and the same camera specs as the iPhone 5s.

At last year's March event Apple introduced the 12-inch MacBook, ResearchKit, and revealed some final details about the Apple Watch.
