Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced today that the company is working on a 'Dislike' button, reports Business Insider.

"I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years. Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it," Zuckerberg said during a Q&A at Facebook's headquarters.

Zuckerberg says that a dislike button wasn't designed right away to prevent Facebook from becoming a system for upvoting and downvoting like reddit. "That isn’t what we’re here to build in the world," he said.

However, the company has realized that people want to express a feeling other than liking. For example, people don't want to "like" news about family members that have died or the refugee crisis.

"What they really want is the ability to express empathy. Not every moment is a good moment," Zuckerberg said.

While Facebook has been working on the new button for a while, it hopes to launch it soon.

"It’s surprisingly complicated to make an interaction that will be simple," Zuckerberg said.
