Apple's new iPhone 6s can take 4K video but if you're planning to shoot in 4K, you'd better not purchase the 16GB model.
A hands-on video by Marques Brownlee reveals just how much space is used by the various recording modes on the iPhone 6s.
Here's the breakdown:
● 720p HD at 30 fps - 60MB/minute
● 1080p HD at 30 fps - 130MB/minute
● 1080p HD at 60 fps - 200MB/minute
● 4K at 30 fps - 375MB/minute
Based on an available storage amount of 13GB (3GB taken by iOS) that would mean you could only store approximately 34 minutes and 40 seconds of 4K footage on an empty iPhone.
In addition to the storage space you'll need for 4K video, Apple's new Live Photos feature means that, if enabled, you'll be using about double the space for each photo.
We'd definitely would have liked to see Apple offer the base model iPhone 6s with 32GB of storage. Unfortunately, if you are heavy into photo and video, you will need to spring for the 64GB or 128GB version.
