The AppleTV is long due for an update and it may come as early as next week, suggests Gene Munster, an analyst at Piper Jaffray.
Munster notes that the Apple Store has a wait time of one to two weeks for the 40GB model at $229. This is the longest delay he has seen since its launch in 2007.
Its possible that Apple will introduce a new model with larger capacity; however, Munster believes that a major overhaul will coincide with the announcement of an iTunes TV subscription service.
Since "it is unlikely that negotiations for new content are finished" he considers a new AppleTV lineup a "wildcard" announcement for the event.
